Crohn’s Disease

Crohn’s Disease (like its close cousin ulcerative colitis) is a chronic inflammatory disease of the gastro-intestinal tract.

The most common symptoms are intermittent diarrhoea and recurrent pain in the lower right abdominal area often associated with loss of appetite and weight loss.

Contributing Factors

While there appears to be genetic component to the condition, many researchers believe that the occurrence of the disease in an individual may be triggered by a viral infection or by bowel flora that have developed invasive characteristics following exposure to sub-lethal doses of antibiotics.

Naturopathic Treatment

There is a great deal that can be done with natural therapies to help manage this condition and lengthen periods of remission. When natural approaches are used it is frequently possible to reduce or eliminate the use of steroid medications, thus avoiding their undesirable side effects which may include osteoporosis, increased blood pressure, immunosuppression, masking of infections, thinning of the skin and headaches.

Adelaide naturopath, Peter the Naturopath, delivers a range of natural therapies to clients across greater Adelaide.
